Google My Business & Google Reviews

I hope you enjoyed my First Thing! Well, here's the second thing. Similar to the first thing, you want to automate as much as possible...

Thing #2 is all about Google My Business. If you don't know what Google My Business is then shame on you...

Just kidding, of course!

What is this Google My Business voodoo you speak of, Robin?!

Whenever someone puts in a "local" search into Google i.e. "Dog Walker Gloucestershire" you will see a map pop up with the "big three" local businesses listed underneath and three drop pins showing on the map.

90% business owners either don't know what Google My Business is or haven't invested the time into getting their listing optimised.

But...what if I told you this little story?

I don't normally do this but a client asked during a coaching session for help with their GMB listing.

It was pretty woeful, unverified address, no office hours, wrong location, no reviews and basically no information or services listed.

So, we got his listing up to 100% complete using the little wizard things in the GMB control panel.

Within 24 hours he started appearing for "Life Insurance Bristol".

Within 8 days he has closed a deal worth a £2,500 commission from someone who found his GMB listing and made an enquiry.

So, it's worthwhile going through the pain and getting your Google My Biz listing 100% up to date.

Here's a few tips:

  1. This is where you go to edit your listing: https://www.google.com/intl/en_uk/business/
  2. Verify your listing (super important) either via postcard, telephone or an expert such as Chris Attwood who can help you.
  3. In your control panel you'll see a little dial which shows you how much of your profile is complete (in percentage terms) - complete as much as you can.
  4. Don't just use your company name in the listing title if it doesn't contain keywords your prospective customers use (think Web Design, Business Coaching etc surface level descriptions of what you do).
  5. Upload some photos of you and your branding.
  6. Go and get at least 10 reviews as quickly as possible.
  7. Here's the link to the Google Review URL Generator I mentioned: https://whitespark.ca/google-review-link-generator/
  8. Then plug that url into https://bit.ly to get a shortened version. Send this link out to customers automatically after you've engaged with them.
  9. In the previous Thing I mentioned Acuity, once I've sat a Consultation with a prospective client they automatically get an email with a link in it asking them to leave a review. Catch the client while they're warm.
